The most important thing I learned during the Non-Instructional Leadership program was to look at everyone's perspective before responding/reacting to a situation. Rather than applying for a new position/promotion, I have been working on improving my current position and how I perform. I have written specific goals with help from my administration and meet with them to review and revise as needed. Words of wisdom I would share with new participants is to get the most of the program... participate fully in every part, even if it seems redundant to your current skills. The active listening part especially.

For me, the hands on interaction was great. I agree with amuirnova, it was wonderful to witness the differences in opinion & handling of tasks assigned. I have not applied for any new position(s) since I am content in my present position. I did improve immensely in my listenting skills, organization & my attention to details. My advice for the new participants is do not give up! You will be surprised how much you retain & what you will use in the future. In addition, you make a lot of networking friends.

The most important thing I learned from this program was listening and communication skills. Because of it, I am now able to communicate better with staff members, listen to what they have too say and am able to coach them in the right direction. My writing and organizational skills have also improved. This was an excellent program and if you give 100% to the skills that are being taught, you will see a great improvement in your daily work habits.

It is difficult to name one skill of all those learned as being the most helpful. I benefitted greatly from all skills taught and experiences shared while in the program. My performance has improved in the areas of communication, decision-making and time management.
I am content in my current position. Therefore, I have not applied for any other. After completing this program, my supervisors have increased trust in my judgment and meeting/presentation skills and I have been presenting at meetings among other duties.
Words of Wisdom: Absorb all you can and utilize the skills learned as soon as possible at your current position and you will be rewarded. You will gain confidence and be seen in a different light among your supervisors and peers.
